Uncle, Alfred Akwoch wad Omoli is indescribable, to me. He is/was a liberator, general, intellectual, expert, father, grandfather, and grand grandfather of sons and daughters.
To historians and journalists, uncle, Akwoch is/was an encyclopedia of historical facts about the liberation struggle.
To Shilluk (Collo), he is/was an elder, a leader, and a Wiseman
Born in 1945 in Bodh, wij Rek just next to Pathow where I grew up.
He joined the liberation struggle, the SPLA/M in 1983 in Bor, together with our late hero, and founding father Dr. John Garang de Mabior.
Since then, uncle Akwoch didn’t look back. In 2017, he told Eye Radio that he has no single regret about joining SPLA and liberating the country despite its challenges.
So, this tribute is my respect to my uncle, Alfred Akwoch. I would like to mourn the fallen hero, liberator, intellectual, army general, wildlife expert, elder, father, and grandfather by a few things about him.
In the words of Apostle Paul, uncle Alfred Akwoch fought the good fight, he finished the race, and he kept the faith.
He was a loyal liberator who never stumbled the liberation struggle in the back, he kept the faith.
Uncle Alfred was a kind-hearted man.
He was a humbled leader and kind-hearted.
Shortly, after the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), his house in Amarat was the place most people settled before finding their relatives or their place to stay.
He welcomed everyone with an open-hearted without asking him about his clan or place of birth.
That’s the leader we have lost today.
That’s the leader we are mourning now, let us celebrate his life and pray for his family.
Uncle, Alfred lived a life of service.
Rest in Peace, uncle, Alfred
May the good LORD rest your soul in peace
